Principal's Weekly Phone Message
Good evening Yates Mill families. This is Mrs. Adkins with the last official Sunday announcement of the 2013-2014 school year. Our students did a fabulous job last week working hard and doing their best on the End of Grade tests. Those students who did not have to take the test provided a quiet and respectful environment for the third, fourth, and fifth graders. We look forward to sharing the positive results with our whole school community.
Don’t forget to order your school supplies for next year. Information has gone home with your students and is posted on our school website. This is an inexpensive and convenient way for you to get your child’s needed school supplies for next year without having to walk into a store! All supply kits match the supply list created by each grade level. If you need more information, please contact our front office. Yearbooks are also on sale for the remainder of the school year. The cost is $16 and members of our PTA will be available each morning for your child to purchase a copy if they have not already done so.
As the school system begins to plan for the 2014-2015 school year, new practices will be put into place with the goal of improving yellow bus service for families. If your child currently uses the bus service and they are eligible for it next year, they will automatically be assigned transportation to the address of record. If you currently attend Yates Mill and are eligible for bus service but have not used it this year, you can go online now and request transportation services. A letter explaining this information will be coming home to you but you can also go Wake County’s internet site to read more about the new procedures.
As we approach the last week of school, your teachers have some exciting activities planned. Be sure you checked the weekly newsletter that was sent home Friday. Tomorrow, June 9th, those students who have met their reading goal will be able to tape me to the wall. During the afternoon our Pre-K, K, and 1st grade students will have their Olympic field day. On Tuesday, June 10th, students in grades 2-5 will have their Olympic Field Day. We will also be hosting that day from 12:00-1:00 a Volunteer Luncheon for all parents who have been involved in some capacity at Yates Mill this year. Please plan to stop by and enjoy some time with our staff and other Yates Mill parents. On Thursday, June 12th, we will recognize our 5th graders for their accomplishments in elementary school at a ceremony that begins at 10:00 in the gym.
We know we will have a productive week together as we Leap into Excellence by Putting Children First. Have a good evening!
