Principal's Weekly Phone Message
Good evening Yates Mill families. This is Mrs. Adkins with an announcement for the week of August 25, 2014. We look forward to seeing all of our students tomorrow for the first day of the 2014-2015 school year. I know the teachers have many great things planned for a successful school year.
On Monday, August 25th, we will see everyone in grades 1-5 for the first day of school. Those Kindergarten students with a last name that begins with A-D will also come tomorrow for their staggered entry. If your child will be entering Kindergarten this year and you do not know which day they are to attend school this week, be sure to check our website or call the front office. All Kindergarten students and their parents are asked to come to the school this Friday, August 29th between 4:15 and 5:15 to find out their teacher and visit their classroom.
Our start time for the instructional day this year is at 9:15 but students can start entering the building at 8:45. Please be sure your child is here and ready to start no later than 9:10 to get their day off to a great start. This week our Kindergarten staff will meet all Kindergarten students at the front doors to get them checked in for their staggered entry day. If you choose to walk your 1st thru 5th grade student to the classroom tomorrow for the first day of school, we are asking that you sign-in at the front table and wear a visitor’s pass. At 9:10 we have a bell that rings indicating all students should be in class to start the day and all visitors will need to say their good-byes. After tomorrow all parents and visitors will have to sign-in the front office before moving throughout the school building. The safety and security for all who are at Yates Mill is a top priority.
If you plan to carpool your child at any point this school year, be sure to obtain a carpool number and tag from the front office if you did not get one at Meet the Teacher last Wednesday. Students will not be called by their names, only by numbers, so please be sure you have your tag. Again, we want to ensure safety for all.
We will continue our tradition with Friday Folders. Each Friday students will bring home a folder with work samples and important information from either the school, PTA or the teacher. Please be sure you check it each weekend and have your child return it to the teacher on Monday. We would like to continually increase paperless communication by posting information on our website or send it to you via email.
Don’t forget to sign-up to follow us on Twitter as this year we are going to try and tweet each day when buses leave our campus in the afternoons. This will help you stay updated on the events at school and your child’s arrival time at the bus stop. In your letters you should have also found directions to sign-up to receive text messages from the school through Remind 101. I will send text messages throughout the school year to keep you informed of important events or inclement weather changes.
We know we will have a productive week together as we Leap into Excellence by Putting Children First. Have a good evening!
